Anybody into new or old prog? Here's some of what I like. Rush, Yes, genesis, Dream Theater, frame shift, OSI, fate's warning, liquid tension experiment, ACT, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci and Jordan Rudis, evergree, epic, Mike Oldfield, miles beyond, sonic pulsar, Muse, return to forever, the mahaveshnee orchestra, The trans Sibearean orchestra, sabotoge, styx, strativarius, kansas, frank zappa, kamelot, symphony x, Merilliean, kings x, trans atlantic, gordian not, sinata arctica, demons wizards, Jethrow tul, arrien, envy, pink floyd, etc. Also, I like a lot of metal that has prog elaments but might not fall under the progressive catagory normally, heloween, blind guardian, in flames, deo, rainbow, deep purple, blue oyster cult, buckethead, maidan, ivory knight, bumblefoot, X japan, etc. Anybody want to talk about any of these bands, or, recommend some I haven't heard yet?
I've seen buckethead with 2 different bands; once with his band Giant Robot and once with Les Claypool/Bernie Worrell/Brain. Both were amazing shows. I may try to catch one of those upcoming Roger Waters summer/fall shows. He's supposed to be playing 1 set of random floyd/waters solo tracks and 1 set consisting of dark side of the moon each night. Would really like to catch rush live... Hope they tour again. Ever hear anything by tortoise? I'd say they're more along the lines of progressive jazz than rock. Very complex pieces of music with all the musicians playing very intricate parts as opposed to most prog rock where either guitars or keyboards play the lead most of the time. Check out the albums "millions now living will never die" or "tnt" r "it's all around you."
i only recenlty discovered return to forever adn they're awesome. you missed out symphony x and porcupine tree. i think. the list was huge so i gotta check out some of those. *grin
What happened to Tool, they should certainly be brought up too *grin* I really like their Literalus album and 10.000 days, their new album, is coming out on May 2nd. You don't get much in terms of guitar fireworks but their drummer is absolutely astaunding and their songs are epic and complex and really really good, Muse's new album is coming out this summer and I am excited, great band. Pink Floyd will always be a classic, too bad they've refused to get together after that one Wembley concert last year.
cheers

Yep, I'm a fan of classic prog rock myself. Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Yes are my faves. Don't know much about newer prog stuff and I'm not really a metalhead of any kind at all, as I tend to prefer keyboards and analog synths and Mellotrons and such. Oh, I shouldn't forget Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
The new tool disc is really good. It's available if you know where to look. ;)
Oh yeah. How could I forget Emerson lake and palmer! haha! And yes, I did put those two bands you mentioned on my list, symphony x and the other one... Tool are a good band but they don't do for me what rush or yes or dream theater do...
I quite like that stuff. It's good for you. *that's all I have to say*
Cool! short and sweet. works for me.
Prog Rock is my routes along side classic rock.
Hear are the prog bands i listen too.
Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Jethro tull, ELP, Rush, Dream Theater and Spock's Beard.
Thoughs are a few of the prog influences that inspire me.
